  1. To walk for pleasure in the countryside; to talk or write in an aimless, long-winded way; to describe a plant that sends out long shoots.
  2. Wandering with no clock-watching and no to-do list: a light mood, free of responsibilities for a while.
  3. Plants ramble with a purpose, reaching for space and light. The author suggests people may secretly do the same, looking for space in their heads or around them.
  4. It comes just before autumn routines start again, so a ramble leaves you refreshed and ready for them.
  5. You can ramble on foot or in your thoughts; both mean wandering without a fixed route or goal.

  1. Take a pumpkin out of the basket and expand the word on it into a collocation. Find the collocation in the text.
  2. Once you are ready, hide your notes and match the collocations with their meanings.
